Just a day shy of November 2022, BiliBili revealed a Heaven Official’s Blessing special video.
The reason?
The Tian Guan Ci Fu donghua series is celebrating its second anniversary!
Sadly, the 2022-2023 MADE BY BILIBILI panel came and went without the industry giant announcing the long-expected Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2. Not even a hint!
So, here we are, close to full three years after The Tian Guan Ci Fu S1 premiered, still awaiting an update!
On the bright side, the Heaven Official’s Blessing special video is as beautiful as expected of a donghua this popular, so let’s take a minute to enjoy it:
Fans will notice immediately that the footage is composed of recycled Season 1 scenes but, thankfully, there is novel art accompanying them.
Customarily, Chinese art features a blend of elements exclusive to their impressive culture and the Heaven Official’s Blessing special video clip is no exception to the rule (or rather, tradition).
You’ll notice that the trademark Chinese landscape painting (Shan Shui) doesn’t disappoint. If you close your eyes for a second, you’ll get enveloped in the wonderful soundtrack.
Will Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2 Ever Come Out?
Given that the Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2 was announced immediately after S1 ended (more precisely, during the closing credits of the last episode) in 2020 and that the title has a cult following in its own right, it is indeed surprising that no updates have been provided for two years.
The Haoliners Animation League-animated, BiliBili-produced Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 1 ran for 12 episodes (one special episode included in the count) on Bilibili and Funimation starting October 2020. Netflix added Heaven Official’s Blessing to its library in April 2021. Funimation followed suit in November of the same year, this time with an English dub. There’s also a Japanese dub available.
The donghua series is available via the Made By Bilibili YouTube channel. Extra content is reserved for the MadeByBilibili YT channel members, so there’s plenty of eye candy to go around!
The Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua is based on the eponymous novel by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (MXTX for fans), which attained a huge international fan base even before being licensed for an English release. Seven Seas Entertainment is publishing the novel under its Danmei (boys love) label.
Needless to say, the animation is beautiful, the character design far better than that of the manhua adaptation, and the adventures run amok! The Heaven Official’s Blessing donghua sticks to the source material to such an extent that fans have nothing to complain about.

Tian Guan Ci Fu Season 2 will commence with Xie Lian arriving at the Ghost City and seeing Hua Cheng’s true form.
Albeit Tian Guan Ci Fu (天官赐福) is a danmei title, due to China’s censorship laws there’s not much explicitly to see. However, the subtle details are all in place making this donghua series a treat to all senses.
The plot centers on the budding romance between an unlikely pair — Crown Prince Xie Lian (a.k.a. the laughing stock of the three realms) and ghost king Hua Cheng. As the story progresses and the past is being revealed, it surfaces bit by bit that there’s more than meets the eye about the affair.
By the way, Seven Seas Entertainment has also licensed the remaining two titles by MXTX: the tremendously popular The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (魔道祖, Mo Dao Zu Shi) and The Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System (人渣反派自救系统, Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong).
Here’s a trailer PV for the Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2 which emerged in 2021. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait much longer for the donghua sequel!
UPDATE: Heaven Official’s Blessing Season 2 will likely premiere in 2023, with additional details yet to be revealed.
