The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi Has Been Treated to a Donghua-, Manhua-, and Live Action Web Series
There’s no denying the fact that The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation novel has witnessed international success. In fact, upon beginning serialization (it was originally a web novel) via the Chinese online platform Jinjiang Literature City (2015-2016), it became so popular that various groups started sharing their translations (in multiple languages) online.
Thus, Mo Dao Zu Shi had become so popular that when it got licensed for a printed edition, it already had a cult following. The translations were willingly brought down by the groups sharing them when the novel got a license.
Today, The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation novel series has multiple translations, including those in English, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, Korean, Burmese, Russian, Hungarian, Portuguese, and German.
It was only natural that the title would get a donghua adaptation, which it indeed did four years ago. The Mo Dao Zu Shi donghua series has three seasons (July 9, 2018–October 16, 2021) that also go by the name The Founder of Diabolism, a chibi series titled Mo Dao Zu Shi Q (July 31, 2020– January 29, 2021), and a live-action web series (The Untamed, available on Netflix).

If you haven’t read the novel, manhua, or seen the series, here’s the Seven Seas’ official synopsis:
“Feared and hated for his sinister abilities, Wei Wuxian–the grandmaster of demonic cultivation–was driven to his death when the most powerful clans united to destroy him.
Thirteen years later, Wei Wuxian is reborn. Summoned by a young man who sacrificed his soul in a forbidden ritual, Wei Wuxian is now bound to seek vengeance on the stranger’s behalf or risk the destruction of his own soul. But when an evil entity emerges, a familiar face from Wei Wuxian’s past suddenly appears amidst the chaos–a powerful cultivator who will help shine a light on the dark truths that surround them.”
A Mo Dao Zu Shi mobile game has also been announced but there have been no updates meanwhile.
