The Throne of Seal (神印王座 , Shen Yin Wang Zuo) donghua series has been gaining popularity by the minute, and no wonder there!
If you haven’t discovered this gem of Chinese animation yet, suffice it to say that The Throne of Seal donghua is based on the super popular xianxia, action, fantasy web novel titled “Sealed Divine Throne” (unofficial title) by Tang Jia San Shao, one of the most prolific Chinese web novelists.
The novel hasn’t been licensed in English but there’s a fan translation out there, so look it up!
Here’s a synopsis from one of the translation groups to get you started:
“Devil clan gained the ground and human beings were at the great risk of being wiped out. At this critical moment, six temples led the human race to guard their last land. A young man joined Knight Temple in order to save his mother and he has to go through all those traps and miracles on this tough journey. In a world where human’s six temples fought against devil clan’s 72 devil pillars, would he finally make it to the sealed divine throne?”
Where Can I Watch Throne of Seal?
First off, there are two Shen Yin Wang Zuo donghua seasons. The Throne of Seal Season 1 aired from April 28, 2022, to September 29, 2022. That a Season 2 was in production was confirmed during the Tencent Video Animation 2022 Conference.
The Throne of Seal Season 2 premiere date was on December 14, 2022; the series is presently up to Episode 9 (subbed) as of December 29, 2022.
Shenman Entertainment is the animation studio behind the Shen Yin Wang Zuo donghua, with production being handled by Tencent Penguin Pictures, Xuanshi Tangmen, Tianshi Wenhua, and China South Angel. Quite a collaboration, you must admit.
Fortunately, whenever you see “Tencent,” if the title has the potential to be received well abroad, you’ll be able to find at least a couple of episodes with English subs.
In the case of Throne of Seal, the producer has gone all out, uploading all available episodes to its official YouTube Channel! New episodes are being added regularly (as mentioned above, the donghua is presently up to Episode 9).
Tencent Video’s official Throne of Seal synopsis reads:
“Six thousand years ago, the Demon God appeared and creatures were turned into demons. The mankind created six Temples to fight the demons. Long Haochen joins the Knights Temple. As he grows, an adventure unfolds. He wins the recognition of others and fights with the Six Temples against the demons for the sake of human beings. He sacrifices himself to protect the people. Could Long win the Throne of Seal and be granted the highest honor in the Knights’ Temple?”
